My brother Jeffrey and I were just kids when our parents, Shirley and Brice Phillips, came to Ocean City in 1956. Mom and Dad imagined leisurely days on the beach, but those dreams were quickly put to rest as business took off. I remember sitting on the steps of our first restaurant, proudly calling to Mom in the kitchen that another guest was coming for dinner. My brother and I loved to help Dad steam the crabs or taste Mom's new recipes.
Dad often reflects on our first season in Ocean City. "We just wanted to sell off some of the crabs from our packing house," he says of the four-seat crab stand he and Mom opened over 40 years ago. Today, Phillips Seafood Restaurants is among the largest-grossing family restaurant groups in the country.
Over 50 years and 17 restaurants later, the Phillips story continues, based on two simple principals: serve quality products and offer them at an affordable price. With our new catalogue, we hope to extend this tradition even further, to people and places far beyond our original home in Chesapeake Bay.
Let me be the first to say: Welcome to the family.
